These two resources can assist parents with the systems approach and methods in helping young adults in all aspects of the career development process. Both are hyperlinked document images that open a downloadable pdf document for easy printing or electronic referencing. Both base methodologies on the practices of the former HRDC and current WorkBC applied career exploration and decision making models. They are supplementary to the services in the school's Career Advisor role.

While this is a difficult time for many people, WorkBC Mission is pleased to announce that they will be providing services virtually. This is being done via phone appointments, email & social media communication. For further information, please email [email protected]

YOUTH SKILLS EMPLOYMENT TRAINING PROGRAMS Students who do not plan to attend post secondary education on a full time basis after graduating may be interested to learn more about industry specific youth employment training programs. These are short term training programs focused on specific industries such as manufacturing, food/beverage processing. Participants receive a stipend for attending and other financial supports may be available to them (transportation assistance fuel/bus tickets) Contact your local WorkBC office to learn more about these programs. Youth must not be in school full time However they can let the staff at WorkBC know shortly before they graduate that they will soon be unemployed.
EMPLOYER WAGE SUBSIDY CONSIDERATIONS
There are Provincial and Federal Wage Subsidy Program considerations at this time.
Employers and Workers should be clear on the eligibility factors for each Students may be able to qualify once graduated and actively seeking employment.

Injuries can result from inadequate training, orientation, and supervision; inexperience; and lack of awareness of workplace rights and responsibilities. . Our Student WorkSafe resources and student safety video contest are also available to help empower youth to be healthy and safe at work.

Career Advisor Tip: Students you can review safety program information on the WorkSafeBC site and become knowledgeable about safety programs and practices related to the industry you are applying for jobs in. This knowledge can set you apart from other applicants during the interview. Great way to respond to the closure of an interview - "that I would like interviewers to know that I am "familiar with safety practices associated with working in (name industry) and have self directed my learning through WorkSafeBC resources" However be prepared to answer more specific questions by knowing your safety topic!!

NOTE:
There are specific steps to take to apply to all post secondary education institutes (PSI's) in BC. As with previous years, current post secondary school applicants are asked to:
- apply online via Education Planner BC (https://www.educationplannerbc.ca/)
- request the Ministry of Education to send student secondary school records (transcripts) to each college/university you have applied The Ministry link is below and they have produced self help how to videos.
3. Be sure to determine if your program area of study has set up alternate instructions in response to COVID19 to those above
(click on the "ALPHA PSI TRANSCRIPT DOCUMENT box at the bottom of this page for an alpha listing of instructions)
Individual college/university program areas of studies may also be asking for SEALED transcripts from the school.
MSS is still in a position to provide those.
